About Portswood, Swaythling, and Bassett

The neighbourhood team have provided the following description of their work:

Our policing area is divided into three wards: Portswood, Bassett, and Swaythling. The team of officers covering these wards are based at Portswood Police Station.

Our Neighbourhood Policing Teams focus on identifying and reducing threat, risk, and harm within the community. We work proactively to address anti-social behaviour and target persistent offenders to help keep our neighbourhoods safe.

All three wards are supported by one Sergeant, five Police Constables (PCs), and three Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs).

Portswood Ward includes Highfield, St Denys, and Portswood High Street, as well as the majority of the University of Southampton's campuses. It is a densely populated area with a large student community and four local schools.

Bassett Ward covers Bassett, the western part of the Flowers Estate, and the southern area of Lordswood. This is a predominantly affluent residential area, home to several University premises and halls of residence, as well as five schools. The ward also includes Southampton Sports Centre and Southampton City Golf Club.

Swaythling Ward includes the eastern part of the Flowers Estate, Mansbridge, and Hampton Park. It is a busy residential area with a mix of family homes and student accommodation, including two University halls of residence. The ward also features several green spaces such as Daisy Dip and Monks Brook, alongside commercial premises on Wide Lane, and is home to three schools.

This website provides an overview of our current community priorities, and details of upcoming community engagement events.
