About Fratton and Baffins
The neighbourhood team have provided the following description of their work:
Fratton & Baffins is a large area for the neighbourhood team to Police. It is enjoyable and the areas are very diverse.
Fratton is the busier area commercially with a lot of shops on Fratton Road and Kingston Road. The area is predominantly residential property mostly in the form of terraced housing. Other major areas of note on the beat are St. Mary’s Church & grounds, St. Mary’s recreational park, Kingston cemetery, City of Portsmouth Girl’s school & Fratton railway station. Fratton railway station epitomises the new challenges we, as a community, face with regards to the threat of terrorism & also modern day policing methods. Due to the ever changing world in which we currently find ourselves having to adapt to, we liaise closely with both rail staff & the British Transport Police in order to keep Fratton railway station safe.
Baffins is a largely residential area with a small collection of shops along Tangier Road. Other areas of note on the beat include Baffins Pond, Moneyfields Sport & Social Club, Portsdown Archery Club, Great Salterns Recreation Ground and the many allotments. Following the change of the beats in April 2015 we have taken ownership of Milton Common and Miltoncross Academy.
We aim to be a visible presence across the beat and attend as many community events that we can so that we can engage with the public. You will often find the team out on their bikes so please feel free to stop us for a chat!
