About Bournemouth Central Safer Neighbourhood Team
The neighbourhood team have provided the following description of their work:
Central Bournemouth is bright, vibrant and multicultural, and includes large residential areas, a busy town centre and beaches that have won four Blue Flag awards.
It has a population that increases substantially when visitors and workers are taken into account.
The ethos of policing in Central Bournemouth is one of high visibility patrols to help make the town safer and feel safer.
With the introduction of Safer Neighbourhood Teams they provide a regular and highly visible on-street presence, tackling issues of concern to the communities they serve.
Crime levels within Central Bournemouth have decreased over the past three years – from 8147 offences in the year ending March 2005 to 5975 offences in the year ending March 2008, a fall of around 26.6 per cent. This represents 2172 fewer victims of crime than there were three years ago.
The average yearly detection rate for all crime during the same period was 39 per cent.
Like many other urban locations across the UK, the challenge in policing a popular town centre containing many pubs and clubs are unsurprisingly dealing effectively with alcohol linked offending, disorder and anti-social behaviour.
We remain focussed on intelligence led policing, using information and crime analysis to direct our patrolling officers. While reducing crime in the area and increasing the number of offenders brought to justice.
